。平時都站立於海底，腹鰭作為腳架變得僵硬有力
。頭部張開的魚鰭作為感應器官，尋找附近的獵物與敵人
。移動游泳時魚鰭會瞬間放鬆壓縮，讓深海龍首魚彈射出去
。由於要適應瞬間加速，因此頭骨堅硬且呈流線型
。游動時探測魚鰭會平貼魚體，等站立時才會舒展開
。頭部非常尖銳，有像喙的嘴，推測是高速刺穿獵物補食，或是驅趕獵食者
