世界各地有為數眾多的古老城堡，都以歷久不衰的古典藝術美令人驚歎。這些城堡當初建造的目的大都軍事要塞，或是皇室行宮，而今它們則已打開門禁，讓各國遊客得以一窺歷史的時空。

新天鵝城堡Schloss Neuschwanstein又譯新天鵝石城堡、新天鵝石宮始建於1869年，位在德國巴伐利亞省福森市，在德國東南與奧地利的邊界上，城堡就蓋在隸屬阿爾卑斯山山脈一個近一千公尺高的山頂上，是根據巴伐利亞國王路德維希二世的夢想所設計，並花費了17年時間建造而成。
國王是位藝術的愛好者，一生受著華格納歌劇的影響，他構想了那傳說中曾是白雪公主居住的地方。城堡中洋溢著中世紀的氣息，從不同的角度觀看，城堡展現出變化無窮的面容。美國迪斯尼樂園里的堡壘，就是以新天鵝堡為原形設計的。 新天鵝堡與周圍風景融為一體，在四季變遷中呈現出不同的夢幻風貌，宛如山澗中的一顆寶石。圍繞城堡四周的湖泊，沉沉的湖水，美得如詩如畫，宛如人間仙境，是德國的象徵之一，被德國人引為驕傲。新天鵝堡，堡內到處裝飾有天鵝的日常用品、幃帳、壁畫，就連盥洗室的自來水水龍頭，也裝飾著天鵝形狀。耗費巨資建成的新天鵝堡成為德國旅遊業賺錢的大戶，德國最熱門的旅遊景點之一。
