馬里亞納海溝為地球目前已知最深的海溝，位於菲律賓東北、馬里亞納群島附近的太平洋底，最深處在斐查茲海淵為11,034公尺是地球的最深點，如果把世界最高的珠穆朗瑪峰（喜馬拉雅山）放入溝底，峰頂還不能露出水面 。
科學家在2019年研究發表更首度發現，住在這些最深遠環境裡的生物正在食用塑膠，而且分量驚人。

現在就算在地球最遙遠的地方，也無法避免垃圾和有毒污染。
